How Do You Play Omaha

The following is the procedure involved in playing Omaha.

  • Initially, a dealer is assigned and he will be the one to act last during betting rounds. A button is used to identify the dealer and this is rotated to the left after each hand. to initiate the pot, everyone posts blind bets, just like in Texas Hold Em Poker.
  • Now, the next step is when two blind bets are posted. After this, the player who is sitting to the left of the player with the dealer button places a bet that is approximately half of the minimum bet. After that, the person sitting to the left of the player who posted the small bet places a bet that is equal to the minimum bet. The rest of the players are exempted from placing any betting money at this time because the dealer button is in rotation and at some point or the other everyone will have to post a similar small bet and a big bet.
  • On completion of the previous round, the dealer deals four cards face down starting with the player that posted the small bet and ending with the player with the dealer button. The first bet is played out when the player to the left of the big bet either doubling the bet or quadrupling his bet. This kind of betting continues all around until it reaches the person who placed the small bet. If, by the end of it, no one has raised, then the dealer will ask everyone if they would like the option. This means that the big bet has the option of either raising or just 'checking' the bet.
  • Three cards are dealt face up on the table. This is known as the flop. These are all communal cards that can be used by all players and the betting begins again with the person sitting to the left of the dealer button.
  • The dealer now burns a card and turns a fourth card up on the table. This is called the turn.
  • The dealer burns another card and turns another card face up on the table, which is called the river. This is the final betting round.
  • The final step involves the players using at least two of their pocket cards and three of the communal cards. The player with the best hand wins!
